A report has been released by the US Census Bureau regarding the relationship between the amount of child support owed in the United States and the amount actually paid.

The study was based on statistics gathered between 2007 and 2009. The results are upsetting, to say the least. In 2009, the amount of child support owed was $35.1 billion. In that same year, only 61 percent of that amount of money was actually received by the deserving parties. The report also shows that in 2007, 46.9 percent of parents received the entire amount of child support they were owed, compared to only 41.2 percent in 2009.

The main participants of the study were custodial and non-custodial parents. The payment from the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent was evaluated when determining these final percentages.
